What is corporate coaching?
Corporate coaching is a human development system in which a qualified professional helps a learner achieve a predetermined goal or set of goals by providing guidance and training.
How does it work?
It creates awareness within an organization and brings to light the areas that need attention. Companies with traditional management structures tend to have an unattached workforce that’s just going through the motions to collect their cheques at the end of the month.
This lack of investment discourages people from going beyond their call of duty to deliver greater value to the company. Developing a coaching culture in your organization would encourage awareness, growth, initiative, and motivation to overcome the obstacles that prevent the firm from achieving true success.
How can you use it?
In order to effectively initiate a corporate coaching culture into your organization you must obey the fundamental principles of coaching. As you implement these principles be careful to remember the overarching goals of your organization.
The three key principles are as follows:
- Confidentiality:- This enables trust to develop and allows your colleague to feel sufficiently at ease to reveal their beliefs, values, aspirations, current challenges and opportunities.
- Equality of Relationship:- This ensures that the coach remains responsible for himself/herself and likewise, the trainees become responsible for themselves and their decisions. It reduces and limits the risk of any dependency arising and grants a unique power to the coaching relationship
- Accountability:- This a key part of the process of change and prevents staff meetings from becoming ‘all talk’ without leading to any real and measurable change.
